In North America we tell children Santa is watching so be good and they will get presents, and if they’re bad they might receive a lump of coal. In European traditions the Krampus work along side St. Nick. They are the half-goat / half-demon companions of St. Nick whose job it is to find those who have strayed off of the straight and narrow. Offenders will be caught, put in baskets and carried off.
This is a fun interactive family event, kids are welcome to dress up and walk with the rest of the procession much like the zombie walks and witch walks of the past. Those were super fun, creative events and Kamloops needs another one so we are excited to bring you the Krampus Parade!
As opposed to the Santa Claus parade every year this one is full of jangling bells, shaggy pelts of fur, curved horns and scary masks. The parade also includes St. Nick and the Pertchen women who bring the light and offer treats to good children.
There will be plenty of music, vendors, food and dance for the whole family to enjoy.
We would like to find as many performers as we can so if anyone wants to join and show off their talents and add to the spectators’ delight please get in touch with us on the Facebook Kamloops Krampus page or send us an email. Jugglers, poi spinners, drummers, musicians and dancers — we want you all.
